Our company was founded in 1956 in Topeka, Kansas, on a revolutionary idea — selling shoes in a self-select environment. More than 50 years later, Payless continues to use the self-select model, combined with superior, industry-leading customer service, to provide an inspiring, engaging shopping experience for our customers.

Payless serves millions of consumers through our powerful network of more than 4,500 stores found in a variety of retail settings in all 50 U.S. states, as well as in Puerto Rico, Guam, Saipan, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Canada, Central America, the Caribbean and South America.

Payless broke new ground in 2009, with its first store openings in the Eastern Hemisphere. Through a franchising arrangement with M.H. Alshaya Company, the first Payless stores were opened in the Middle East, with stores in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates.

Payless also recently announced plans for additional international expansion; Russia will be the next country in Payless' strategic global growth initiative, and through a new agreement with franchisee partner Alshaya, the two companies will franchise Payless stores in the country beginning in 2010.
