With more than 4,500 stores, three major distribution centers and corporate offices around the globe, the smallest of efforts can produce big results.

Distribution Centers

Take our Eastern Distribution Center (EDC) for example. Annually, the EDC ships nearly 100 million boxes of shoes. Through reuse and recycling efforts, associates at the EDC will save more than 7,000 trees this year. When we find a way to reuse cardboard, we do more than keep some waste out of a landfill. We potentially save millions of trees. And it gets better.

The EDC building has a really cool feature … literally. The new center in Brookfield, Ohio, has a mechanical ventilation system instead of air conditioning. It uses huge fans and air movers to remove the hot air during the day and pump in the cooler night air to make the building comfortable the next day.

Stores

In our retail stores, we are beginning to use carpet manufactured from recycled fibers, recycled carpet and we are testing energy management systems that reduce consumption and provide cost savings.

Offices

At our corporate offices, we are focusing on paper reduction and lessening energy consumption by making small changes in our daily behaviors.

It all adds up to noticeable effects on our workspaces, our homes, our communities and our planet.
