Stride Rite Corporation Inks License Agreement for Children's Eyewear
LEXINGTON, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 1, 1999--The Stride Rite Corporation (NYSE: SRR) announced today that the Children's Group division has entered into a licensing agreement to brand two collections of children's eyewear with the Stride Rite name. Zyloware Corporation, based in Long Island City, NY, will produce sunglasses and prescription frames for children's eyewear, which will be available to consumers during the first half of calendar year 1999.
''I believe eyewear can be a strong extension for the Stride Rite brand,'' said Madison Riley, President of Stride Rite Children's Group. ''We've built our reputation on engineering products specifically for children in order to do what's best for them. Therefore, it's logical for us to enter into a partnership creating eyewear that helps ensure children's safety and well-being.''
Zyloware, which has been manufacturing high-quality, name-brand eyewear since 1923, will produce two lines of children's eyewear for Stride Rite. The Sunwear line consists of non-prescription sunglasses which offer 100% UV-protection against harmful sun rays. Flexible lenses made of polycarbonate, the most impact-resistant lens material available (which exceed FDA impact requirements), make these glasses especially appropriate for children. Stride Rite Sunwear will be sold primarily at Stride Rite's 203 retail stores throughout the United States, with an expected availability date of March 1, 1999.
A second collection, the Opthalmic line, is comprised of prescription glasses, which will be sold through Zyloware's existing distribution channels to optical retailers and national optical chains. There will be a total of eight children's styles in the Optical line, with an expected launch date of June 1, 1999.
The Stride Rite Corporation markets the leading brand of high-quality children's shoes in the United States. Other footwear products for children and adults are marketed by the Company under several well-known brand names, including Keds, Sperry Top-Sider, Tommy Hilfiger, Nine West Kids, Grasshoppers and Street Hot.
