Saucony® Outfits Atlas Snowshoe Race Team
Top trail and mountain runners to compete in Saucony footwear and apparel at 2010 U.S. National Snowshoe Racing Championships
LEXINGTON, MA (March 4, 2010) – Saucony, Inc., a leading global supplier of performance athletic footwear and apparel today announced that it is outfitting the Atlas Snowshoe Racing Team for the 2010 U.S. National Snowshoe Racing Championships. The Atlas team, comprised of some of the country’s top trail and mountain runners will compete in the brand’s performance footwear and apparel, including the award-winning ProGrid Razor trail running shoe at the 10th-annual championships to be held in Highland Forest Park near Syracuse, New York, March 5th-7th.
“Our partnership with the Atlas Race Team further expands our commitment to trail runners, no matter what the season,” said Richie Woodworth, president of Saucony. “Both Saucony and Atlas share a similar mission: to inspire runners everywhere to extend their ability to train and race at a high level throughout the winter. We’re hopeful that the country’s top snowshoe competitors will have a fantastic experience racing in our product at the national championships.”
The Atlas team won claim to the title of fastest snowshoe team in the United States by dominating the 2008 US National Snowshoe Championships with eight of the racing team’s women and five of the men placing in the top 10 in the two races. In 2009, Atlas again was the winner of the Nationals, placing 1st and 2nd in the men’s division and a dominating win in the women’s division.
“By teaming up with Saucony we hope to give the Atlas team exactly what they need to defend their championship title,” said Connor Folley, marketing manager for Atlas Snow-Shoe Company. “The team is looking forward to bringing home the gold for the third consecutive year.”
Snowshoeing has become one of the fastest-growing sports in North America and has the potential of becoming an Olympic sport. As an extension of trail running, participation in snowshoe running and racing continues to intensify, giving hard-core trail and mountain runners a competitive platform throughout the snow-covered season. As part of a major initiative to place the sport of snowshoe racing in the global spotlight, the World Snowshoe Invitational was held as a demonstration race at Grouse Mountain in British Columbia the day before the 2010 Winter Olympics closing ceremonies.
