Stride Rite Reports Third Quarter Results

    LEXINGTON, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 22, 1999--The Stride Rite Corporation (NYSE:SRR) today reported lower sales and earnings for the third quarter of its 1999 fiscal year as results fell short of last year's strong third quarter performance.

Net sales in the third quarter of fiscal 1999 decreased 7.5% to $156 million from $168.5 million in the comparable period of fiscal 1998.

    LEXINGTON, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 21, 1999--The Stride Rite Corporation (NYSE;SRR) today reported higher sales and earnings for the second quarter of its 1999 fiscal year.

Net sales in the second quarter of 1999 increased 16% to $166.3 million from $143.2 million in the comparable period of fiscal 1998. Net income for the second quarter totaled $9.8 million, a 37% increase from fiscal 1998's operating earnings of $7.1 million.

Stride Rite Delivers 44% Earnings Increase On 15% Sales Growth

LEXINGTON, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 18, 1999--The Stride Rite Corporation (NYSE:SRR) today reported higher sales and earnings for the first quarter of its 1999 fiscal year.

Net sales in the first quarter of fiscal 1999 increased 15% to $148.2 million from $129 million in the comparable period of 1998. Net income for the first quarter of fiscal 1999 totaled $6.1 million, a 40% increase from net income of $4.4 million in the first quarter of 1998. Earnings per share on a diluted basis increased 44% to $.13 in the 1999 first quarter from $.09 in 1998.

Stride Rite Corporation Inks License Agreement for Children's Eyewear

LEXINGTON, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 1, 1999--The Stride Rite Corporation (NYSE: SRR) announced today that the Children's Group division has entered into a licensing agreement to brand two collections of children's eyewear with the Stride Rite name. Zyloware Corporation, based in Long Island City, NY, will produce sunglasses and prescription frames for children's eyewear, which will be available to consumers during the first half of calendar year 1999.
